Cooperation B'Rock Orchestra

22 January 2026

This spring, we will perform the St. Matthew Passion with B'Rock Orchestra: a renowned baroque orchestra from Ghent. Since its founding in 1921, Bachkoor Holland's performances have been faithful to Bach's original scores and take place in the location for which Bach composed the work: the church. For many years, the choir performed this oratorio with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra. This orchestra will be unable to accompany the Bachkoor in 2026 due to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra's residency during the Osterfestspielen in Baden-Baden.

The choir is therefore delighted to partner with B'Rock Orchestra from Ghent. Founded in Ghent in 2005, B'Rock Orchestra lives and breathes the baroque. In recent seasons, B'Rock has worked with soloists such as Jeanine De Bique, Elisabeth Hetherington, and Vilde Frang, and with conductors such as their "artistic family member" René Jacobs. B'Rock also has a strong presence in musical theater, collaborating with Muziektheater Transpararent, Tall Tales Company, and Opera2Day, among others. Intuition, inspiration, and connection are interwoven in its DNA: the backbone of one of the most successful and innovative period ensembles today. B'Rock plays historical instruments, which will enrich the sound of the St. Matthew Passion.
